Interview with Patent Pending's Marc Kantor

Scribes Of Metal is thrilled to bring our readers our first exclusive interview, as we chat to Marc Kantor, guitarist from the rapidly rising US pop punk band Patent Pending. Lets get down to business...

For anyone here in the UK who may not have heard of you, tell us a bit about yourselves and the band.....
Patent Pending is a 5-piece pop-punk/rock band from New York. We're completely out of our minds on stage and we do anything we have to do to have fun. We've been touring for over 9 years now and we have seen every musical trend come and go and come back again, so we don't get caught up in all of the nonsense that can plague bands to a specific genre or time-period. Everything that we do, we are doing because we enjoy it.
You've done tours with some of the biggest & most popular bands of your type of music. Is there any one tour you've enjoyed the most out of all of them?
Bowling for Soup and Zebrahead are our all-time favorite tour mates. These bands are the coolest, most down to earth groups that we have had the pleasure of touring with. NO EGOS, NO BULLSHIT, JUST AWESOME!
If you could pick a band or bands as your perfect touring partners, who would you want to go on the road with?
We would love to head out on the road with BFS and/or Zebrahead again, but if i had to choose a group of bands that we haven't toured with yet, I'd definitely say:
B. Goldfinger - They are one of our biggest influences and their live show is INCREDIBLE!
C. Greenday - I mean, COME ON... IT'S GREENDAY!
(fun fact: Billie Joe from Greenday peed on my shoe earlier this year at a small club show they played in NYC under their infamous alter ego "Foxboro Hot Tubs")
The video for Douchebag has a brilliant and very funny concept to it, how did you come up with the idea(s) for the video?
We were kicking around ideas with Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup's video production team "Built By Ninjas", and we had a couple of different plans. At one point we were going to have a  "Douche-Parade" and a fake reality show. Those ideas kind of fell to the wayside once we started talking about how our country rewards douchey behavior by putting it on TV and in magazines every single day. This lead us to the idea of a straight up award ceremony to parody the current state of American media. Beyond all of that deeper meaning stuff, we thought it would be downright funny to give someone an award for using too much hair gel.
You spent last summer travelling across the US on the Vans Warped Tour, how did that go for you guys?
For us, Vans Warped Tour is the greatest gift and opportunity our band is given. We love getting a chance to hit the pavement to prove ourselves. It's a proving ground and a right of passage for young bands in our country. It is the mecca of everything happening in our genre and we are honored every time we get to be a part of it. With temperatures always topping 100 degrees, limited food and 19 hour days filled with hustling your set time and cd's, it's definitely not for the weak. It's a grueling tour! we have seen it tear the best of bands apart. Luckily in our experience, it always brings us closer to each other and our ultimate goal of playing music for the rest of our lives. There are no rock-stars on that tour and that's the way it should be.
Is the European Festival circuit something you'd like to do, either this year or in the future?
FUCK YES!!!! We want to come to Europe so badly. IF ANYONE WHO BOOKS THESE FESTIVALS OR TOURS IS READING THIS, PLEASE HELP!!! We wash a mean car, we smell nice and cook incredible 5-course meals!
Any chance of seeing Patent Pending hit the UK anytime in 2012?
That is the goal. Again, if anyone over there who books festivals or tours is reading this... WE ARE YOUR GUYS!!!
One last question, what would Patent Pending like to achieve during 2012?
We've got all kinds of plans for 2012! We are getting ready to shoot some more music videos in support of our new album "Second Family" and are looking at a healthy tour schedule for the spring/fall. Hopefully the UK will be part of our 2012 madness! You can keep up with all of our shenanigans over at
