A couple of weeks ago the powers that be at the Download Festival further cranked up the ante in their battle for the UK's festival pounds and pence by adding a further twenty two bands to the festival's lineup. Amongst these additions were a considerable number of young, hungry up and coming British metal bands, which is always a hugely encouraging thing to see.
Download Festival 2012 Announcement: The British Are Coming!
Opening the main stage on the Friday are London's own Rise To Remain. Austin Dickinson will know more than a thing or two about the family history and association with Download but now he gets to write a significant slice of it himself with Rise To Remain's first main stage appearance at Donington Park, the band having played a couple of times on some of the other stages in the last few years.
Making their first appearance at Download since 2009, one of the fastest rising bands of the last eighteen months Sylosis return to unleash more chaos. Having opened the main stage at Sonisphere last summer Josh and the boys will have to be content with raising merry hell in the tent much as they did on their last Donington appearance. Sylosis in a tent at a festival is a special experience as attendees of both Download and Sonisphere's past may well attest to so this is part of Friday not to be missed.
Sharing the tent with Sylosis on Friday are a couple of other noteworthy young British bands. Recently seen tearing up venues across the UK on the Kerrang tour with New Found Glory and The Blackout, While She Sleeps are another band fully worthy of attention. The fact they are also playing in the tent could really make that something special.
Rounding off the trio of UK bands who are playing the tented third stage on the Friday are London rising stars The Defiled. The Defiled are another rapidly rising band, having first come to the attention of many when touring with Sylosis on a Jagermeister sponsored free tour back at the end of 2010. 2011 has seen The Defiled rise to an extent that they are now headlining the same venues they were opening for Sylosis in bearly more than a year later. The Defiled can also be seen between now and Download at the London date of the Jagermeister 2012 tour featuring Skindred, Black Spiders and Therapy?.
In addition to all the young bands, we reserve a special mention for one of the old guard. Saxon have just been added to the main stage on the Saturday, slotting in nicely amongst the likes of Trivium and Steel Panther. Biff Byford and co are always a great live band and return to Donington having last played a great set on the "classic" Sunday during 2010, not forgetting their festival stealing performance as main support to Testament in the tent in 2008. The likes of Motorcycle Man and Heavy Metal Thunder will always be rapturously received at Donington.
So that's the pick of the newly added Brits, more news on Download's tenth anniversary coming as soon as we get it. Anyone wishing to buy tickets for this years Download Festival can do so at the following link ---> Tickets for Download Festival 2012
