Just as everyone was really starting to wonder when the next batch of bands for Download 2013 was going to drop, the organisers let off their own form of firework in the shape of a seven band addition to the lineup for Donington on bonfire night.
Download Festival 2013 Adds Eight New Bands To The Line-Up
Topping off the group of bands announced yesterday are Download debutants Queens Of The Stone Age. Veterans of Reading, QOTSA will be making their Donington bow in 2013 after more than a decade together. Joining them will be grunge veterans, the very popular Alice In Chains, who last graced the hallowed Donington turf back in 2006. Also on board are one of the original perpetrators of old fashioned "heavy rock & roll", Lemmy and the rest of Motorhead. Jared Leto and 30 Seconds To Mars will be a popular choice with many of Donington's younger attendees, although their appearance is guaranteed to split some opinion down the middle. The same could be said for Finnish "love metallers" HIM, although they are now senior enough amonst the rock & metal community to have moved past the target of most of the abuse from some of the "true metal" crowd. Florida's A Day To Remember promise to provide one of the liveliest sets of the weekend, while The Gaslight Anthem round off the announcement.
That wasn't all either! A couple of days after this batch of bands was announced, the details of one more emerged from Download HQ in the shape of Danish rockabilly metallers Volbeat!
The above bands join headliners Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Download first timers' Rammstein for the annual Donington extravaganza, taking place from the 14-16th of June 2013 with camping from the 12th of June for those keen to get in two days of partying before the music starts. Tickets are on sale now from all good online retailers and the official festival website. Further updates on Download and the other UK rock & metal festivals will be available here in due course.
