Another announcement about the hallowed festival known as Download. Today saw the appearance of a swathe of bands added to the line up, following Mondays news that Slipknot will headline the festivals Friday proceedings.
Faith No More are back, this time in the main support slot to the Saturday headliner. The San Francisco alt-metal legends last appeared at the Download in 2009 following a long haitus, and this 'return' not only will see the band bringing more new material but also coincides(ish) with the release of their first studio album in 18 years! The album is due in April, with the first single called 'MotherF****r' (without the censorship) being out at the end of this month. The band comment:
Hard to believe it’s been five years already, but what’s harder to deny is that a lot has changed. The last time we played Download the focus was on bringing back the past; now it’s all about the present and the future. Where it should be
Huge news for the second stage, with Marilyn Manson taking the lead with his new 'Pale Emperor' getting a top spot, which will make Manson fans squeel with delight. Manson is quoted to have said something about 'causing choas' - which is pretty much his career. Slot aside, a lot of the hype surrounding Manson in the 2nd stage headline slot will be reignited when the masses have managed to hear the new material and could make or break Downloads Saturday.
Download regulars A Day To Remember have also been announced today, no indication of slot or billing, but in an announcement with a few bands that smell like marmite, they will be welcomed back with open arms. Being their fifth DL appearance since they broke into the mainstream with Common Courtesy, the band have explained:
We have been playing download for years and I've always been proud to say I was just on the damn thing. So to be asked to be one of the main bands on one of the sickest rock festivals on the planet blows my mind. Haha we were a garage band...We in ADTR like to put on a spectacle, and we plan to do just that.
In a move that pitches Downloads Saturday as more of a competitor to Reading and Leeds or Glastonbury, Muse have been announced as the Saturday headliner. Yes, that's right - Muse. They're a huge band and I'm sure all the people that buy Saturday day tickets to see them will really enjoy it.
Stay tuned for more Download news, which, if we are to believe Gene Simmons twitter leaking, may consist of Kiss, Crue, Slash and Shikari... but we will wait and see....
