Picking up the pace in terms of announcing bands for their line up, the team at Sonisphere have announced ten more bands for the UK return of Sonisphere to Knebworth in July 2014.
There's nowhere else this announcement can possibly start other than with the news that The Prodigy will have some very special guests appearing with them on the opening night of Sonisphere Knebworth 2014. None other than Mr Red Cap himself, Fred Durst, along with the rest of Limp Bizkit, will be bringing their nu metal party anthems to the grounds of Knebworth where they went down so well in 2009 and 2011. This will be Limp Bizkit's most high profile appearance at Sonisphere yet.
Certain traditions have to be observed at certain UK festivals, and it seems that one tradition that will be continued is that Anthrax will appear at every UK Sonisphere festival. Confirmed to appear at their fourth Sonisphere out of four, Anthrax guitar legend Scott Ian explains how it went down this time:
Phone rings…Me: Hello. My manager: Do you want to play the 40th anniversary of Knebworth; Sonisphere Festival with Iron Maiden?Me: (filling my pants with poo) Yes!“It’s one of those phone calls you only dream about. I’m so excited for Anthrax to be a part of the biggest and best Sonisphere ever! Can’t wait to destroy Knebworth again!”
To the delight of many, making their full Sonisphere debut in 2013 will be The Devin Townsend Project. As usual, Devin has his hands in a number of projects but will be taking a break from the studio along with the rest of his band to make an appearance at Knebworth this Summer. Devin had this to say about appearing at Sonisphere:
“Amidst a year of relentless writing and planning, we are fortunate enough to be invited to a select few shows, and among the most cool is undoubtedly Sonisphere UK! It’s an institution that is really exciting, among bands we absolutely love. We can’t wait to take a studio break and come entertain you there. Thank you Sonisphere for the opportunity! =)”
Thirty five years after appearing alongside Led Zeppelin at Knebworth, Chas N' Dave continue another Sonisphere tradition of acts that don't fit the usual "alternative festival" line up appearing by making their return to Knebworth. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Bjorn Again, Chas N' Dave are not to be missed at this years' Sonisphere.
Several other acts will be making their Knebworth débuts; US deathcore act Carnifex (for whom it is the first UK festival appearance at any UK festival ever), Canadian post-hardcore mob Silverstein and punk act Dropkick Murphys. Returning to Sonisphere will be British alternative rock act The VirginMary’s, their fellow Brits in the metal band Voodoo Six, and most impressively UK rock act The Sisters Of Mercy, who were hugely popular on their previous appearance in Bohemia at Sonisphere 2011.
This impressive batch of artists will join The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica as well as the numerous other acts already announced. Ticket details including information of the deposit scheme and early bird tickets can be found at www.sonisphere.co.uk. More bands are set to be added in the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled for further announcement, we will bring them to our readers when we have anything to report.
