Think metal in the early noughties (00's) and you'll instantly think of Linkin Park. Along with Limp Bizkit, KoRn and a couple of other bands, Linkin Park were one of the bands that defined a generation and a whole genre of music with nu metal. Their iconic debut album Hybrid Theory remains to this day one of the finest debut albums of the last fifteen years, and we're thrilled to announce it is going to be played in full when Linkin Park headline Download Festival 2014. Being that Hybrid Theory only clocks in at about 35 minutes, there's an awful lot of time for hits from all of their other albums too.
Linkin Park front man Chester Bennington had this to say about the announcement:
“We have been kicking around the idea of playing HYBRID THEORY for some time and the perfect opportunity is DOWNLOAD 2014. The legendary energy of the DOWNLOAD crowd is the apex of the rock experience and we are very excited to share this special night with them.”
Appearing as special guests to Linkin Park and making their Download debut are US pop punkers Fall Out Boy. Reunited after a multi-year hiatus, Fall Out Boy returned this year with their "Save Rock & Roll" album. After thrilling the crowds with high profile shows at Reading & Leeds, and with a huge UK tour planned for next year, Fsll Out Boy have decided now is the perfect time to make their Donington bow.
Fall Out Boy's bassist Pete Wentz is extremely excited to playing Download for the first time, as evidenced by his comments below:
“So stoked we are playing download. It's a legendary one to us from watching old videos of our favourite bands playing it back in the day. Gonna be a blast, we can not wait.”
Linkin Park & Fall Out Boy join Rob Zombie and Friday night headliners Avenged Sevenfold at the 2014 Download Festival. As announced yesterday, early bird tickets with a £10 discount are available until the end of this week and can be purchased from www.downloadfestival.co.uk. Stay tuned tomorrow morning for the final headliner and sub-headliner announcement!
