It's been another great year for Swedish prog metal favourites Opeth - with the release of another critically acclaimed album in the shape of Pale Communion (Scribes Of Metal's Pale Communion review can be read here) and many successful festival appearances, not to mention a virtually sold out UK tour last month.
Now plans have been announced for Opeth to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary in some style, by holding a very special concert at the world famous Palladium venue in London - recently the site of the latest incarnation of the Sound Of Music musical, as well as the iconic British television variety show Saturday Night At The Palladium.
This very special gig will take place on the 18th of October 2015 and will see Opeth play two full sets, one a career retrospective set and the other will see them celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ghost Reveries album by playing it in full. This gig follows on from the band's 20th anniversary show, which also took place in London back in April 2010 at The Royal Albert Hall which was filmed for a special DVD.
Opeth frontman Mikel Akerfeldt was on his usual sparkling form when asked to comment on the forthcoming anniversary celebration show:
"The forces that be put up a very mystical and subtle little advert on the so called internet. Yes, we will celebrate 25 years of being Opeth in 2015 and this is reason enough to gather up the forces and play. For you. At the Palladium in London. Not sure if they have a dress-code there, as it is a posh little place. Do we care? No we don’t. It will be a pretty unique evening I reckon, hopefully free of technical difficulties. No thanks to Baal! With that said, we are a live band in the true sense of the word and you can never be certain. Regardless it will be a blast and I strongly advise you to think about attending. But don’t think for too long. It might cost you your seat! We’re currently on tour (Hey! Thanks European progrockdeathmetalheads! You are absolutely fantastic and we love you!) and I’m being called for, so gotta dash. Ta-ta!"
Tickets for Opeth's 25th anniversary show at The London Palladium were available on a Live Nation pre-sale this morning (Thursday 13th of November) but this has now sold out. If any further updates from the Opeth camp, about this show or anything else emerge, we will bring them to our readers.
