With 2014 now in it's first full week, the powers that be at Sonisphere decided it would be a great time to announce some new bands for the Knebworth instalment of Sonisphere 2014.
In what is definitely an announcement for the metal and prog metal loving amongst our readers, there have been seven bands announced to join headliners The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica.
We can't really start this announcement anywhere other than Metallica's fellow Big Four members Slayer. Returning to the UK for the first time since headlining Bloodstock Open Air 2013, you know exactly what you'll get from Slayer - an hour (or thereabouts) of thrash metal classics, and their fans wouldn't have it any other way!
Joining Slayer will be France's finest musical export ever, the mighty Gojira! Having destroyed the Bohemia tent the last time Sonisphere Knebworth was held in 2011, Gojira are returning to once again lay waste to the masses at Knebworth. Prog metal giants Mastodon are also making their return to Knebworth having been on the bill in 2011, and may even have some new material for us by the time July rolls around (we can hope!).
Having played the original Sonisphere Knebworth in 2009, Aussie hard rockers Airbourne return to Knebworth five years on armed with their most popular album yet "Black Dog Barking". Make sure to see them to find out what part of the stage or festival infrastructure Joel decides to climb up this time! Their compatriots prog rockers Karnivool are also coming to Knebworth to make their UK Sonisphere debut so there will be plenty of their countrymen to enjoy for any Aussie ex-pats at Knebworth.
The mysterious Ghost / Ghost BC will also be appearing at Sonisphere Knebworth this time around. Having grown in popularity enormously over the last couple of years, this could well be Ghost's most high profile UK festival appearance to date. Rounding things off in some style is the return to Knebworth of grunge / alt-rock legends Alice In Chains, who will be playing tracks from their brilliantly titled album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here along with a selection of classics.
The nice new official line up poster with the new additions can be seen here:

This announcement was originally made yesterday in the shape of a quite frankly brilliant video, and we thought it only fair to include it in our post. Please, please watch it below.
