Slipknot Announced As First Download 2015 Headliners, Judas Priest Special Guests & More

After months of waiting, it's that time again! Andy Copping and his team at Download Festival HQ somewhere inside Live Nation have begun the months long process of announcing bands for next years' Download Festival and it's a cracking start this time around.

Confirmed to return to Donington to headline Download for the third time (as many expected would happen) are Iowa's metal juggernauts Slipknot. Fresh from the release of their huge comeback album .5: The Gray Chapter and with a massive UK arena tour coming in the new year, Slipknot take their almost obligatory place on the top of the 2015 Download line up. Here's Corey Taylor on the news that Slipknot will once again be headlining Download:

Being invited back to Download always feels like coming home. Headlining Download, for the 3rd time, feels like the culmination of a life's dream. It's an honor, a privilege and we're all looking forward to it.

Joining Slipknot in the special guests slot are none other than the masters of British Steel, the metal gods of Judas Priest! Reinvigorated by the addition of guitarist Richie Faulkner to their ranks a couple of years ago, and with their new album Redeemer Of Souls returning to the classic Judas Priest sound, The Priest make their second Download appearance seven years after filling the same slot as special guests to KISS (who are also strongly rumoured to be playing this year) in 2008. Here's a word from The Priest themselves:

35 years ago Judas Priest took the stage for the first Monsters of Rock at Castle Donington!

We are thrilled to be performing at Download 2015 as the band continues its 40th anniversary 'Redeemer of Souls' World Tour that brings us home to see and hear the roar of our #priestfamily.

Also on-board for their most high profile Download slot yet are Five Finger Death Punch. Download 2015 sees the most welcome return to Donington for FFDP who put in one of THE performances of the festival back in 2013. With a sell out UK tour and a hugely well received support slot on Avenged Sevenfold's  UK arena tour in the last twelve months Five Finger Death Punch are now starting to gain a UK fanbase somewhere close to what they have in their homeland where they headline festivals and arenas. Few would bet against The Death Punch one day headlining Donington if they can keep up their momentum.

Don't fancy seeing Slipknot on the main stage on Friday night at Download 2015? Then rock out on the second stage with none other than Black Stone CherryHaving just completed a very successful UK arena tour with Airbourne and Theory Of A Deadman and with a Top 5 UK album in Magic Mountain, Download 2015 will see Black Stone Cherry headline the second stage at Download for the second time.
