They built up to it for three full weeks with a very clever multi-aspect marketing campaign, but Iowan metal masked superstars Slipknot have finally released some new music!
The band's first new song since late 2008 when previous album All Hope Is Gone was released was revealed last Friday. Entitled The Negative One, the song bears several hallmarks of an earlier Slipknot sound most reminiscent of the self titled Slipknot album as well as Iowa with a lot of effects, scratching and plenty of Corey Taylor's trademark growl - Snuff this song most certainly is not.
Those who want to listen to The Negative One can do so over at the official Slipknot website www.slipknot1.com. The release of the song was preceeded by five teaser videos that were released on the band's website as well as their various social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr) in different versions, generating an enormous hype for the band. The Negative One has been received mostly favourably by Maggots worldwide, and was even played this lunchtime by Fearne Cotton On flagship station BBC Radio One in the UK (to a very mixed reaction from the listening public who aren't used to such things on lunchtime mainstream UK radio).
The band are premièring the video for The Negative One on their website at 6pm (UK time) tonight, which may lead to and answer various open questions respectively (such as who is the new Slipknot drummer?), so Scribes will return later on with a report on that.
